Kelly Park is a neighborhood park at the intersection of Parker Avenue and Mitchell Street, just off of Ridge Avenue. The park includes a large playground, basketball court, and tree-lined walking path. Many different tree species can be found at Kelly Park despite its small size. The park is named after Philadelphia Police Officer Joseph V. Kelly, killed in the line of duty in 1971.
In 2019, the Roxborough Manayunk Conservancy helped to break ground on a new garden at the entrance to the park around a memorial to Officer Kelly. The Friends of Kelly Park group had just restarted that same year after many years of inactivity. Plans are in the works to bring new playground structures and other updates to the park.
The Friends of Kelly Park are always looking for helping hands to trim trees and rake leaves, keep the paths and playgrounds clear, and expand the garden. If you'd like to volunteer, send them an email.
