Germany Hill is a part of Philadelphia Parks and Recreation. It is the cliff line that parallels Fountain Street above Smick Street and wraps around onto and runs parallel to Smick. It sits across the street from Hillside Recreation Center and is a grand entrance into this portion of the community. One can see also the foundations from the corner of Fountain and Smick placed at locations climbing the hill. They were steps for the millworkers to be able to get through the neighborhood from the hills of Roxborough to the mills located in Manayunk.
Neighbors and the Roxborough Manayunk Conservancy have cleaned and planted this area. Also have planted trees on the Hillside Rec Center side of Fountain Street. More recently we have seen a mural installed that celebrates our watershed and the wildlife it allows to have exist in the City. The mural celebration of the watershed, starts at the canal, continues up the Fountain St Steps and completes the celebration in the Roxborough Pocket Park, which represents the top of both the Schuylkill and Wissahickon watersheds.
